Living With Wellness Art Festival 2024 was a spectacular celebration, uniting more than 40,000 community members for a fun-filled day that embodied the spirit of togetherness, wellness, and cultural appreciation. With a diverse array of activities, performances, and educational opportunities, this event was a testament to the vibrant and dynamic community we live in.
The day began with a serene and invigorating session of Yoga on the Square. Led by our community ambassadors, attendees of all ages gathered to participate in yoga and meditation sessions, guided by renowned organizations like the Brahmakumaris and the Isha Foundation. The highlight of this session was the presence of Bollywood celebrity Pooja Batra, who led the yoga activities with grace and enthusiasm, turning it into a roaring success. The energy was palpable as attendees embraced mindfulness and physical wellness together.
In association with Trillium Health Partners, the event featured a wellness panel where top doctors provided valuable consultations and engaged in discussions around preventative wellness with the community. These small group sessions were highly informative, offering practical health advice and emphasizing the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
To inspire creativity among the younger attendees, an art contest was organized for children aged 8 to 12. The kids enthusiastically participated, drawing and painting their interpretations of the beautiful and diverse landscape of Mississauga. The contest not only showcased the incredible talent of our young artists but also encouraged them to connect with their community through art. Local artists led by Meena Chopra, our community ambassador, set the scene with their beautifully painted art pieces and attracted a sizeable crowd of people looking to join in the live art session.
The event was a cultural extravaganza with more than 150 performers showcasing a rich variety of artistic expressions. The performances spanned from the classical Bharatanatyam and energetic Capoeira to traditional Chinese arts, captivating the audience. Bollywood remained a perennial favourite, drawing loud cheers and applause. Our wellness partners, The Cancer Warrior Foundation put together a very special “Walk With Me” to bring attention to brave cancer survivors across the country. This platform not only entertained but also celebrated the diverse cultural heritage of our community, fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts.
The opening ceremony was a grand affair, graced by dignitaries and community leaders from both the provincial and federal government, as well as representatives from the Indian Consulate. Their presence underscored the importance of community wellness and the support from various levels of government for such inclusive and enriching events.
Music lovers were in for a treat with a band performance by Poojan Kohli and his immensely popular Bollywood rock band. The crowd was energized by their vibrant and contemporary renditions of beloved Bollywood hits. The musical excitement got kicked up a notch with a performance by Jasbir Jassi, the sensational Bollywood and Punjabi music artist. His electrifying performance had the audience dancing and singing along, creating a memorable and joyous atmosphere.
The "Living With Wellness 2024" event truly had something for everyone in a multigenerational family structure. For the kids, there was a magician and a face painter, adding an element of wonder and excitement. A seniors' lounge provided a comfortable resting space for older attendees, ensuring everyone could enjoy the event at their own pace. And, of course, there was a delectable array of food stalls offering delicious treats to satisfy every palate.
All in all the festival was a resounding success, bringing together thousands of community members for a day of wellness, cultural celebration, and family fun. We even snagged a nomination for Festival of the Year by the Mississauga Arts Council, which we are eternally humbled by.
The event not only highlighted the importance of living a balanced and healthy life but also strengthened the bonds within our diverse community. We look forward to many more such enriching experiences in the future.
